Abstract: THE INFLUENCE OF PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS ON EMPLOYEE MOTIVATION

Objective: This study aims to (1) investigate the impact of performance management systems on employee motivation, (2) identify key elements of effective performance management systems, and (3) assess the role of feedback and evaluation in enhancing motivation.

Research Design: A survey design was chosen to collect comprehensive data from employees about their experiences with performance management systems.

Sample Size: According to Taro Yamane's formula, a sample size of 380 employees was determined, ensuring a 95% confidence level with a 5% margin of error.

Case Study: The research focused on the telecommunications sector, where performance management is critical for service delivery and innovation.

Location: Abuja, a growing telecommunications hub.

Reliability Coefficient Score: The survey instrument achieved a Cronbach's alpha score of 0.88, indicating high reliability.

Findings: Effective performance management systems, characterized by regular feedback, clear objectives, and fair evaluations, significantly enhance employee motivation. Systems lacking these elements were found to demotivate employees.

Recommendation: Telecommunications companies should implement comprehensive performance management systems with regular feedback, clear goals, and fair evaluations to boost employee motivation and performance.
